I was walking across the parking lot at our Tulsa plant when I saw this shot. It made me think about light and dark, and about how some photographers call themselves light-stalkers. In image-making, it really is all about the light. These trees are on a property raided a couple of weeks ago for a meth lab and crack house. But the trees are still beautiful, especially in silhouette, and the sunrise is amazing. If you're a Christian, this has to make you think about common grace; if you're not one, don't you at least feel a little bit grateful for sunrises?
There's something here too that evokes a fresh start, a promise of something good not yet revealed. Right now, the day is all potential; hope is as fresh as the dew. Sunsets are about reality and reflection and rest; sunrises are beginnings.
